Why your business website is probably killing your company
Would you hire someone from the temp agency to fill in as your Director of Sales for the day? If the answer is "no", then why are you letting a website that looks like a 2nd grader built it represent your company?
Trust me... I get it.
Starting a business is no walk in the park.
Sleepless nights, cold sweats, financial uncertainty. Those are a few of the side effects of being in business for yourself.
But I'm going to be 1000% honest with you...
Your website is the single most important asset in ANY business and most people choose to spend little to no money or time creating a business website that is worth a damn.
Now I'm not saying you need to take out a loan and build a multi-thousand dollar website, but you've got to do a good job of it.
Here's why your website is so important -
24 hours a day, 7 days a week, that website (awesome or shitty) is representing your business online.
And here's the catch.
All your marketing efforts, word-of-mouth, or random conversations are sending traffic to the online face of your business.
So let me ask you...
How important is your website to you?
I can't count how many business owners and decision makers I've worked with that start the conversation like this:
"Hi, I'm looking for something really basic. I need a site that just lists my services and has a contact page."
To me this is the equivalent of interviewing someone for a sales position for a company. When the candidate walks through the door, they are smoking crack and drinking a Miller High Life.
Is that really someone you want selling your services or products and representing your business!?
Believe me when I tell you your website is the single most important thing you own. It should be the one thing in your business that you nurture, spend time with, and enhance.
If you are going to invest in your business, invest in having a website created that's going to create new revenue and represent your brand well.
You'll be really glad you did.
What site visitors think when they land on a bad website
We've all been there.
You click a link on Google or visit a website that was shared with you and the first thing you say out loud (or in your head if you are at work). is...
This website sucks!
So what does the site visitor probably think about the business that owns the website?
This business sucks, or at least doesn't give a damn.
Here's the real problem you face when your business website was just one of those "simple websites with a contact page" -
That visitor is not coming back!
In real life, that was the crackhead employee from above, greeting a store visitor drunk with a crack pipe in his lips.
Now how's that going to go?
A well thought out website will drive traffic and convert site traffic to visitors and value for your business.
A "simple website that lists your services and has a contact page" will more than likely not do what you are hoping it will.
Invest just a little bit of time, energy, and money in your website and you'll be rewarded 10 fold.
